How secure is Online Banking?

At SunTrust Bank, your security is our first priority. We take strong measures to keep your assets safe and your account information private by using layers of security to protect your financial data.

First, we require the use of a secure browser before a connection can be made to Online Banking. A secure browser will use encryption information (Secure Sockets Layer or SSL) to scramble your information—making it useless to hackers—as it passes across the Internet.

For added security, we then have your data pass through a firewall, which is a computer specially designed to keep out unauthorized users. Your information is then scrambled again to ensure it can only be read by authorized SunTrust Representatives.

Finally, to ensure that only you can access your accounts, we require a valid User ID and Password before you can sign on.

For your security, SunTrust will automatically end your Online Banking session if there is no activity on your PC for ten minutes. Also, as part of our client commitment, SunTrust will never send unsolicited emails asking clients to provide, update or verify their personal or account information, such as passwords, Social Security Numbers, PINs, credit or Check Card numbers, or other confidential information.
