How far in advance of the due date should I schedule my payments?

Bill Pay will not allow you to schedule payments for due dates that we cannot meet. The earliest available payment date will automatically pre-fill when you enter a payment amount. You can also choose a payment date from the pop-up calendar, where unavailable payment dates are grayed out.

Scheduling pay dates sufficiently in advance of the due date on the bill allows enough time for the biller to receive the payment and credit it to your account. We recommend that you schedule your payments to be received a few business days before the actual payment due date.

Some billers allow you to send payments on the current business day or the next business day depending on the time of day when you enter your payment information. Click the calendar icon next to a biller on the Payment Center screen to determine the earliest possible due date to select for the biller to receive the payment. You may have the option to send an Expedited Payment to participating billers, for an additional fee. Depending on the time of day you enter your payment information, you may be able to send a Same Day Bill Pay to a biller who accepts electronic payments. A Same Day Bill Pay will be received and credited to your account with the biller on the same business day. You may also be able to send an Overnight Check to a biller who accepts payments by check. Depending on when you schedule the payment, an Overnight Check will be sent to the biller by the next business day or by the second business day. The biller will credit your account according to their policies and procedures. For information on fees associated with the Same Day Bill Pay and the Overnight Check payment options, refer to the fee schedule located within Online Banking.

Whether the payment is electronic or sent by mail, billers may not always credit your account on the same day that they receive the payment. Allow for extra time in this situation so the payment is not considered late. If you want to verify the payment or the credit to your account, you may want to wait a day or two before contacting the biller.
