How does Popmoney® work?

Enroll: Once you sign on to Online Banking, go to the Move Money tab and choose the Person-to-Person, Popmoney option.

  1. Review the Popmoney Welcome page and select Continue to Popmoney.
  2. Review the email address we have associated with your Online Banking profile and enter your phone number (mobile phone number is preferred) then select Continue.
  3. You will receive an email message with the verification code for the email address and SMS message or phone call with the verification code for the phone number provided.
  4. Enter these verification codes in the Popmoney application and select Finish.
  5. Your enrollment is complete and you can now start using Popmoney.

Sign On: Log in to your SunTrust Banking Online Banking account. Select the Move Money tab, and then select Person-to-Person as the transfer option.

Send Money: To send money, provide the email address, mobile phone number or bank account information of the recipient. Then, just tell us from which of your SunTrust Bank accounts to withdraw the funds, how much to send, and when to send the payment.

Notify Recipient: If you send money using an email address or mobile phone number, we will notify the recipient via email or text message with instructions on how to deposit the payment. If you sent the payment to a recipient bank account, the money will be directly deposited into the recipient's account.

Receive Money: If someone sends you money, you will need to accept the payment and choose the SunTrust account where you want to deposit the payment. Within Popmoney, go to the Overview section and search for the incoming payment. Select the transaction and choose the SunTrust account to deposit the payment.

You may also select Automatic Deposit. Automatic deposit is the easiest and fastest way to receive money. It allows you to designate one account into which all incoming payments are deposited. Once the automatic deposit is turned on, there is nothing more for you to do – all payments made to you will be automatically deposited into your selected SunTrust account and you will be informed via email when the funds are available. You can edit automatic deposit settings in Popmoney, in the Preferences tab.

Request Money: To request money, provide the email address or mobile phone number of the recipient you would like to request money from. Enter the SunTrust Bank account to deposit the funds, the amount you would like to be paid, the purpose of the request and a due date of the payment if desired.

The recipient of the request will not receive any of your account information.

Pay a Request Money Request: If the recipient‘s bank offers Popmoney, the recipient can pay the Request Money request directly through their online banking service. If the recipient’s bank does not offer Popmoney, the recipient can pay the Request Money request by following the simple steps at www.Popmoney.com.
